Update

Showcraft has been successfully completed for the year, 2024. A huge congratulations to all of our amazing participants for their outstanding final performance in December.

Junior Showcraft (P3-P6)

Saturdays (Occasional Sunday) 2pm-2:55pm

At Showcraft (Juniors) we will be developing our skills learnt from our previous production 'The Disappearing Dinosaur'. Children will be consolidating and applying their skills to ...Matilda Junior! Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous empowering event. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Senior Showcraft (P7-S3)

Saturdays (Occasional Sunday) 3pm-3:55pm

We are very excited to introduce our new project for Showcraft Seniors 'Wonderfool plays'. 

Our focus will be from the 'Positive Stories for Negative Times Anthology' which are  new plays by some of the best artists working in the UK today written with and for young people. Created as part of Wonder Fools’ international participatory project Positive Stories for Negative Times which has reached over 8000 young people from 16 different countries including UK, South Africa, India, USA, Canada, Italy and Sweden.

Co-commissioned by Wonder Fools and the Traverse Theatre these six plays offer a variety of stories, styles and forms for ages 10 to 25.

Music & Co-Founder of Showcraft

Zara is from West Kilbride and is the director of Kickstart Opera CIC. She is a GTCS qualified teacher and Masters of Music graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Outside teaching, Zara is also a freelance Opera Singer.

Joe Douglas is a director, writer, creative producer, dramaturg and occasional performer. He is the Chair of Theatre Directors Scotland.

Max is a filmmaker from West Kilbride, who recently directed the short film Different Ways, which was created a produced locally with a team of young people, most of whom were recently arrived to North Ayrshire. All of our team members are PVG checked and have completed the Safeguarding Awareness Course by Youth Scotland, in accordance with our child protection policy.

Prop-Making

Fiona will lead sessions on prop making and scenic art. She is an artist, art therapist and writer, who volunteers her skills regularly to work with the children at West Kilbride Primary School.

Parker is a mezzo-soprano Opera Singer born and raised in Oklahoma, USA. Parker regularly performs musical theatre, cabaret, choral, concert, and operatic works as a soloist. In addition to her performing, she is deeply committed to being an advocate for the arts in order to make classical music more accessible to all people.

Victoria is a teacher who lives in West Kilbride. She trained in Musical Theatre at Arts Educational in London and was a performer and dance and drama teacher before training as a primary school teacher 15 years ago. Since qualifying, she has continued to teach and promote the arts in school settings by running clubs and directing and choreographing productions.

Gianna Nesti is a Bachelor of Education student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is currently training to be a music teacher in Scotland.

SESSION CONTENT

Children will dive into a world of creativity as they explore the fundamentals of costume design and prop making through exciting and enjoyable activities. From designing costumes to crafting props, they'll unleash their imagination while learning essential skills for bringing their artistic visions to life on stage or screen

Children will dive deep into character work through interactive games and exercises. From exploring different emotions to creating memorable personas, they'll unleash their creativity and imagination, while developing valuable skills for the future.

Children will embark on a fun-filled journey to learn the building blocks of music. Through engaging activities like musicianship games, movement, group singing lessons, they'll discover the joy of making music while acquiring essential skills for musical success.

Children will explore everything behind the scenes of film-making, diving into film production and receiving an introduction to camera techniques. They'll also dive into the exciting realm of stagecraft, honing physical awareness, leadership skills, and show management abilities.
